Installed on a highly strategic site as it was where Louis XIV directed the siege of Namur in 1692, the Flawinne castle dominates a French garden laid out in terraces with its classical silhouette. Owned by the Hinslin family until the fall of the Ancien Régime, it became, around 1900, the property of Sir David de Lossy, the name under which it is known.
Built in the early 18th century of blue stone and whitewashed bricks, the castle features a main volume of two levels framed by pavilions. This very sober ensemble underwent numerous extensions in the 19th century: a wing extending to the right of the original building, another perpendicular to it, and constructions attached to the back. In addition to these additions, outbuildings occupy the eastern corner of the courtyard that separates the castle from the farm. The center of this courtyard is occupied by a well topped with a wrought iron structure from the 19th century.
Dating back to the 17th century for its oldest parts, the farm, built of limestone rubble, in turn encloses a paved courtyard. Among its features is a traditional dwelling from the 17th century as well as a barn and stables from the 18th century. Like the castle, the farm has experienced its share of transformations during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Listed as a site (castle and surrounding grounds) on October 15, 1980.
