Against the pillars above the five-sided high choir are 12 apostle statues with their attributes under canopy. They go to mass, as it were. Their place against the pillars is also symbolic: after all, they are the pillars on which Jesus built his Church. The statues date from the 14th century. Three statues, those of the apostles John, Peter and Paul, are distinguished by their stocky stature and their hefty features.
