The Ramparts Cemetery is a British military cemetery containing casualties from the First World War, located in the Belgian city of Ypres. The cemetery is situated on the Ypres ramparts, next to the Lille Gate, and covers an area of 1871 m². It was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
French troops began the construction of the cemetery back in 1914. From February 1915 to April 1918, it was further used by the British. The French graves were removed after the war. Initially, many more dead were buried at the ramparts, but these were transferred to other cemeteries after the war. Only the 198 at the Ramparts Cemetery remained. Among them are 163 British (of whom 9 could not be identified), 10 Canadians, 11 Australians, and 14 New Zealanders (of which 10 belonged to the New Zealand (Maori) Pioneer Battalion). Four bodies of soldiers excavated at St. Jacob's Church were interred here on October 11, 1999.
In 1986, the cemetery was protected as a monument.
