Tower Ter Heide

The 30 meter high tower probably dates from the 14th century. It was not erected as a defensive tower, but as a status symbol. The tower, a keep with a unique floor plan in the shape of a Greek cross, has six floors, interconnected by a spiral staircase. The tower is built in brick on a white stone base, which stands directly in the water. In 1619 the tower came into the hands of the d'Eynatten family who provided the original flat tower with a beautiful roof with slender pear spire. From 1900 to 1939 a beer brewery was located here. The chimney remained a silent witness to this economic activity. The tower, which has been protected as a monument since 1942, was thoroughly restored in 1948. In the courtyard of the Old Brewery you can see photos of the interior of the tower. The tower itself is, for safety reasons, not accessible
