On January 15, 1853, the first train passed through Wervik, operated by the Société des chemins de fer de la Flandre-Occidentale. The first station building was heavily damaged during World War I. The current station building dates from 1924 and is of the post-war type made of brick with natural stone facade elements. It was completely renovated in 2001 and listed as a protected monument. In 2004, a commemorative plaque was installed in honor of the 150th anniversary. On October 1, 2015, the NMBS permanently closed the ticket counters. The building reopened in 2016 for passengers as a waiting room. In March 2018, the NMBS put the station building and the toilet building up for sale. In early April 2019, it was announced that the building had been sold; the building will serve as a banquet hall.
