The current stone mill was built in 1839 to replace a post mill that was likely constructed before 1414 and was rebuilt in 1490 after being destroyed in 1452 during the war of the Ghent citizens against Philip the Good. From 1883 to 1885, a steam engine was installed, later replaced by a gas engine and even later by an electric motor.
In 1945, the mill was protected as a monument, but during a storm in February 1948, the sails and the top broke off. The wooden cap of the mill was removed in 1957. A mechanical grinding mill remained operational in the mill body until 1970, powered by three electric motors. From 2000 to 2002, the mill body was restored, and in 2010, the body was repurposed for the “Belgian Curling Association” as a permanent exhibition space about curling.
