The Venetian Galleries in Ostend, together with the Royal Galleries, form a whole of galleries along the Ostend seawall, now the King Baudouin promenade. Between the two lies the Three Gapers, with the equestrian statue of Leopold II.
The Venetian Galleries were built between 1900 and 1903 by the architect Henri Maquet. Like many new buildings around this time, this gallery was also built at the request of King Leopold II. Previously, the site had been occupied by a restaurant and adjacent oyster pits known as "Pavillon du Rhin".
