Troop bunkers constructed from reinforced concrete blocks belonging to the German Hollandstellung. The line was erected during the period 1916-18 by the German army out of fear of an Allied attack via neutral Netherlands. The Stellung runs from Knokke to Beveren and connects at Vrasene with the also German Stellung Antwerp, built during the same period. The bunkers in Evergem must be seen in the light of the protection of the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. At Eeklo (Strobrugge), the line split into a forward line and main line. The line was used only very limited and locally in a combat situation.
