The Pellenberg castle could very well be the oldest building in Machelen. Pellenberg is indeed the continuation of the old village fortress of Machelen, which would give rise to the establishment of the first village core.
The castle was purchased in a dilapidated state by the municipal council in 1986. It was completely restored and furnished as a socio-cultural center, where the Public library was also housed.
