Meersel - Dreef would not have existed without the Capuchin monastery. In 1687, a monastery was established by the Capuchin Friars. After being expelled in 1797 by the French Revolution, the Trappists took over the monastery from 1838 to 1846. At the request of the local population, the monastery was taken over by the Sons of St. Francis. In 1865, the Capuchins were welcomed back, and since 1968 it has become a chaplaincy for Meersel-Dreef.
