The so-called "Romansmolen," located by the Maarkebeek, is situated about 200 meters from the church of Maarke. It is a protected medieval watermill site, first mentioned in 1154 as a gift from Arnaud of Oudenaarde to the Abbey of Ename. Later, the mill became the property of the lords of Maarke and subsequently of the heirs de Potter d'Indoye from Ghent.
Originally, it is probably the oldest watermill of Maarke.
Inside, the milling installation, the cast iron wheels, and the remarkable horizontal transmission have been preserved and partially restored.
