Cointe Tunnel

The Cointe tunnel is a tunnel in the Belgian city of Liège. The tunnel is part of the A602/E25 and is approximately 1.6 kilometers long. Coming from the Loncin interchange, it is the first of the three tunnels in the A602. The tunnel runs beneath several parks and part of the Cointe residential area.
Because the commissioning of the A602 was long awaited, the Cointe tunnel was considered a GTI for a long time. Just before its commissioning, there were even doubts about whether the completion of the A602 would be profitable. However, after commissioning, the tunnel quickly became saturated. For this reason, attention turned to the construction of the A605 to relieve the A602. Meanwhile, the latter project has already been abandoned due to criticism from the European Union, lack of profitability, and a shortage of government budgets.
