Rur River Cycle Path

The RurUfer cycle path is a cycling trail that runs for about 180 kilometers along the Rur River. It starts near the sources of the Rur at the highest elevation in Belgium, the Botrange in the High Fens, and leads to the confluence with the Meuse in the Dutch town of Roermond. In between, the route mainly runs through German territory. At Kalterherberg, the path crosses the Belgian-German border and passes through Monschau at the Upper Lake and the Rurtalsperre before heading to Heimbach. From there, it continues northward through Nideggen and Kreuzau, passing through the district of Düren and subsequently through the district of Heinsberg. After the Effelder Waldsee, the cycle path crosses the German-Dutch border. It ends at the mouth of the Rur in Roermond.

The route runs almost exclusively on separate cycling and agricultural paths. The RurUfer cycle path is part of the cycling network NRW and is signposted with the typical red and white direction signs. In the sections in Belgium and the Netherlands, node-based signage is used.
