Dave Island

The île de Dave is the largest island in Belgium, located in the Meuse about 5 kilometers south of the Walloon capital Namur between Dave on the right bank and Wépion on the left bank of the river.

The island is covered with dense undergrowth of ash, alder, and willow. Poplars rise high into the sky. Among the plants, one can find the marsh spiraea, angelica, and field cress. Throughout the year, the grebe, the kingfisher, and the Canada goose nest there. The great crested grebe chooses the island as a winter guest. Since no shipping passes between the island and the bank of Dave, the relatively shallow water is a favorite fishing spot for blue herons.
