Gust Gils, 'The Inner Urbanization'
Neoclassical building with Florentine Renaissance inspiration (by city architect Louis Roelandt) on the site of the old Recollects monastery, at the confluence of Leie and Ketelvaart. The monumental 'Salle des pas perdus' was lost in the destructive fire of 1926. Within the poetry route, it symbolizes the defense of victims and defendants.
Gust Gils (1924-2002) Flemish prose writer, poet, and visual artist. Co-founder of the avant-garde magazine Gard Sivik. His work is socially critical, satirical, and grotesque. A sample of his poetry can be found in My Duty-forgotten Work (1994), and his short pieces of 'paraproza' were published in seven books. Triannual Prize of the Flemish Community 1996. Plastic design of the poem by the Belgian artist Paul Van Gyseghem (1935)
