The club was founded in 1899, but was initially part of the Brugge Golf & Sports Club for the first ten years. There were already 18 holes at that time.
In 1909, Zoute became an independent club under the name Knocke Golf Club, and the clubhouse was built.
During World War I, no play occurred because the Germans used the course to build bunkers. After the war, a new course was established, and the club continued under the name Zoute Golf Club. A second course was also created, closer to the sea, but it did not survive World War II. In 1925, the club received the title Royal.
