Arboretum Wespelaar

The Arboretum Wespelaar is OPEN again on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (you can leave the Arboretum until 6 p.m. via the car park), until November 15, 2017. Groups are also welcome on other days upon prior request, and will then be shown around by one of our many motivated guides. For more practical information

Philippe de Spoelberch, a passionate dendrologist, settled in Herkenrode in the 1970s and began to develop his botanical collections. It soon became clear that the private garden was becoming too small to accommodate all those plants. In the mid-1980s, the collection was expanded to the north and the Arboretum Wespelaar was created, which has been managed by the Wespelaar Arboretum Foundation since 2001. In the meantime, Arboretum Wespelaar has grown into a world-class plant collection. It has about 2000 different species and (cultivated) varieties brought together in the 20ha park. Special attention is paid to trees and shrubs of known, wild origin.
