The castle de Lovie is located in Poperinge, West Flanders. It was built in 1856 by the Kortrijk architect Pierre Nicolas Croquison on behalf of Jules van Merris from Poperinge. The property was sold in 1912 to Joseph de Brouchoven de Bergeyck. On 1 June 1917, General Hubert Gough established the headquarters of the British Fifth Army here, and from here he commanded the Third Battle of Ypres from July - November 1917. In 1929 it was sold to the province of West Flanders and was used as the seat of Sanatorium Sint-Idesbald until 1960. Later, the castle became the property of the De Lovie Centre for Guidance of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities vzw. Around the Lovie are the Sixtus forests.
