The Lighthouse of Nieuwpoort is located in the Belgian city of Nieuwpoort on the right bank of the Yser estuary.
The concrete lighthouse stands 29 meters tall. The structure is painted with two white and red bands, so it can also serve as a landmark during the day. The light reaches a height of 28 meters. The tower emits two red flashes every 14 seconds. To achieve this, a system with Fresnel lenses was installed, weighing approximately 150 kg. This system rotates on a mercury bath and makes one complete revolution every 14 seconds. Additionally, the tower is equipped with a lamp changer that automatically rotates a defective lamp away and replaces it with a new one at the center of the lens system. There is also a diesel generator available that provides power when the electrical grid fails. A light sensor ensures that the light automatically turns on when it gets dark and turns off again at dawn.
