Saint Peter's Church

The Gothic-Romanesque Saint Peter's Church is a church in the Belgian city of Ypres. It is located on Rijselstraat near the Immaculata school. Next to the church, there is a small garden open to the public. There are narrow high walls with images of Christianity.
On the site where the Flemish count Robrecht de Fries was said to have founded a place of worship in 1073, a Romanesque church was built in the 12th-13th century, dedicated to Saint Peter. At the end of the 15th and the first half of the 16th century, it was remodeled into a Gothic hall church. When the tower burned down in 1638, a new tower was built in 1868. During World War I, the church, just like the city itself, was completely destroyed. Only the vaults of the church were spared in this.
