In November 1915, the 'New Military Cemetery' in Reningelst was opened, right next to the medical aid posts in the boys' school. 230 graves belong to Canadians, many from the 3rd Canadian Division, which was stationed here in the spring of 1916. A large number fell in June 1916 during the fighting for Mount Sorrel (Zillebeke). Additionally, there are 2 German prisoners and 7 members of the Chinese Labour Corps buried here. 51 French soldiers were exhumed. William Smith, Frederick Loader, and Robert Barker are 3 soldiers who were executed. The cemetery is freely accessible between sunrise and sunset.
