Kapellekesboom

The Kapellekensboom is an exceptional tree. This was confirmed by the recognition of the tree as a protected monument. Recently, the lime tree was also given the title of 'ZEN monument'. The recognition as a 'Without Economic Use' monument was done by the Agency for Immovable Heritage Antwerp. The Kapellekensboom received this recognition because it has no economic use and is also clearly visible from the public road and is permanently accessible to the public.

The recognition came as a result of the "extraordinary places" project, in which the Antwerp regional landscapes and Landscape Park Zuidrand went through 50 cluttered places in our province with a green broom. The Kapellekensboom was designated as one of the extraordinary places and was given a facelift this summer. At the same time, the lime tree was thoroughly inspected. In order to guarantee the management of this exceptional tree in the future, the college decided to draw up a management plan.

The recognition as a ZEN monument is good news for our municipality, but also for the lime tree. As a result of its recognition as a ZEN monument, the municipality receives subsidies for the maintenance of this exceptional lime tree, if the maintenance is included in a management plan. The elaboration of this management plan will therefore not be long in coming. This autumn, the Agency for Immovable Heritage, Regional Landscape and the municipality will sit around the table to finalise the management plan and thus guarantee the future of our exceptional tree.

Kapellekensboom can be admired in the forest, near sports hall Het Kapelleke.
