The Hooidonk meadows in the Tappelbeek valley are a good example of an overwatering system (also called inundation or submersion). This means that a plot is flooded through irrigation with a dam surrounding the plot. The water is drawn from a brook or ditch. The purpose of this system is, besides irrigation, to allow sediment to settle in a short period and thus make the plot more fertile.
