Robert Doisneau was born exactly 100 years ago and is the most famous and recognized French photographer of the last century. He is the creator of the famous Baiser de l’hôtel de ville and has mastered the art of capturing moments like no one else, seemingly grasping a second of intimacy from life. His humanistic photos, which stage anecdotes so subtly, are infused with humor, simple happiness, nostalgia, irony, and tenderness. The photographs of Doisneau, a true poet of the eighth art, take us back in time and allow us to relive almost a century of daily life of the people, whether it be a child or two lovers… Doisneau owes his fame mainly to his black-and-white photos of the residents of Paris: craftsmen, homeless people, street kids, lovers in cafés, the streets, the suburbs, and the alleys… The exhibition A Certain Robert Doisneau shows us the creator of not only his most famous photographs but also his work in color and, exclusively at the Abbey of Stavelot, unpublished photographs from Belgium…
