Vesder

The Vesder originates under the name Weser in the High Fens near the German border, crossing it for several kilometers before reaching the town of Roetgen. Back in Belgian territory, the Vesder reaches the Eupen Lake (1951) with a 63-meter high dam, the Vesder Dam. Further west are the cities of Limburg and Verviers, where a thriving textile industry developed thanks to the good quality of the water from the Vesder. The Vesder flows into the Ourthe in Chênée near Liège, which in turn flows into the Meuse a few kilometers later. Some places along the Vesder include Roetgen, Eupen (Lower Town), Limburg (Lower Town), Verviers, Pepinster, Trooz, and Chaudfontaine. At Chaudfontaine lies Fort Chaudfontaine, which dominates the valley of the Vesder. This fort is part of the belt of forts around the city of Liège.
