Il Vesder nasce sotto il nome di Weser nelle Alpi Fiamminghe vicino al confine tedesco, che attraversa per alcuni chilometri prima della cittadina di Roetgen. Tornato in territorio belga, il Vesder raggiunge il Lago di Eupen (1951) con una diga alta 63 metri, la diga del Vesder. Più a ovest si trovano le città di Limburg e Verviers, dove si è sviluppata un'industria tessile fiorente grazie alla buona qualità delle acque del Vesder. Il Vesder sfocia a Chênée, vicino a Liegi, nell'Ourthe, che sfocia a sua volta nella Mosa a circa tre chilometri di distanza. Alcuni luoghi lungo il Vesder sono Roetgen, Eupen (Città Bassa), Limburg (Città Bassa), Verviers, Pepinster, Trooz e Chaudfontaine. A Chaudfontaine si trova il Forte Chaudfontaine, che domina la valle del Vesder. Questo forte fa parte della cintura fortificata attorno alla città di Liegi.
