El Vesder nace bajo el nombre de Weser en las Altas Fagnes cerca de la frontera alemana, que cruza durante algunos kilómetros antes de llegar a la ciudad de Roetgen. De vuelta en territorio belga, el Vesder alcanza el Lago de Eupen (1951) con una presa de 63 metros de altura, la presa de Vesder. Más al oeste se encuentran las ciudades de Limburgo y Verviers, donde se desarrolló una próspera industria textil gracias a la buena calidad del agua del Vesder. El Vesder desemboca en Chênée, cerca de Lieja, en el Ourthe, que a unos tres kilómetros más adelante desemboca en el Mosa. Algunos lugares a lo largo del Vesder son Roetgen, Eupen (Ciudad Baja), Limburgo (Ciudad Baja), Verviers, Pepinster, Trooz y Chaudfontaine. En Chaudfontaine se encuentra la Fortaleza de Chaudfontaine que domina el valle del Vesder. Esta fortaleza forma parte del cinturón de fortalezas alrededor de la ciudad de Lieja.
