The northernmost part of the landscape is the remnants of the former castle Vogelzang. This is the oldest of the three estates. As early as 1457, there was a small castle, but it was not until the 17th century that it became a larger estate with a park. The current park structure dates back to around 1850 when the park was thoroughly redesigned. It acquired an English style, with whimsical ponds and moats. After fifteen years, a large part of the estate disappeared for the construction of the new fortifications around the then city. The shape of the sports cluster Halve Maan is still part of that fortification. The castle itself was demolished in 1906 by a construction company that wanted to subdivide the area. Only the orangery and stables were preserved. Thanks to an intervention by the province, the city was eventually able to acquire and maintain the estate as a park.
