As is fitting for a true old valley, we also find a few old mills here in the Demer Valley. From here, you can see the buildings and an old wheel of the 'Housselt' mill. Even before 1300, there was mention of a watermill at this location. Around 1680, the Demer was redirected, and this undershot mill powered both a fulling mill and a flour mill. In 1761, the buildings were renovated, and later various renovations took place. In 1840, the mill was partly made of wood and partly of stone, and the flow was such that the mill operated very profitably. Eventually, the mill was only used as a flour mill.
In later years, the mill fell into serious disrepair, despite being protected as a monument in 1986. However, there are concrete restoration plans. The milling equipment is still present, but nothing remains of the fulling installation.
Further upstream in Molenstraat in Alt-Hoeselt, there is another mill.
