City Brewery De Koninck

"Brewery De Koninck" located at the corner with Boomgaardstraat, the latter being the border street between Antwerp and Berchem. Originally an inn "De Plaisante Hof," purchased by the De Koninck family in 1827, with the definitive establishment of brewery "De Hand" in 1833, named in connection with a boundary marker with "Antwerp hand" (see current emblem of the brewery). Residential house with adjoining brewery buildings from the second half of the 19th and 20th centuries, situated between Boomgaardstraat and Haringrodestraat, oldest buildings around a cobbled courtyard on Boomgaardstraat. Double house of five and three bays and two stories under a hipped roof, from the second half of the 19th century. Plastered and painted neoclassical facades with stringcourse-forming dripstones on the upper floor, simple facade termination. Rectangular windows, large and some barred on the ground floor, with rounded upper corners and in a molded framing with ears on the upper floor. Rectangular door in block framing. In Boomgaardstraat adjacent, protruding from the building line, 19th-century brewery buildings around a cobbled courtyard. Anchored and painted (street side) brick construction of two stories under tile roofing (Flemish tiles, ridge parallel or perpendicular to Boomgaardstraat). Various wall openings: rectangular, segmental, and round arch-shaped. Preserved canopied wooden loading hatches. Furthermore, more recent and taller buildings.
