Painter Roger De Backer (°1897 and + 1984) was a student of fellow local Modest Huys. He primarily painted landscapes and fairground scenes. At Dorpsstraat 75 is the birthplace of this painter. A memorial plaque is also located here. Since the summer of 2018, there has also been a Roger De Backer cycling route.
