The Wanze Sugar Factory (Tirlemontoise Refinery SA) has been located on the banks of the Meuse since 1812. It was the largest sugar factory in Europe at the end of the 19th century. Its storage silos mark the entrance to the municipality, and during the beet campaign, a characteristic smell permeates the area.
