Thorembais-les-Béguines is one of the most picturesque villages of the merged municipality of Perwez. In the landscape, seven majestic Brabant square farmhouses arise, renovated and well maintained, which testify to an intense agricultural activity. Like the neighbouring village of Thorembais-Saint-Trond, Thorembais-les-Béguines takes its name from the River Thorembais. The 'Béguines' refer to an old beguinage founded in the 13th century by Sainte-Ode. The village used to be called Thorembais Saint-Martin.
It is best known for its vineyards: the largest in Walloon Brabant, with two hectares of vines. Mellemont's estate currently covers 3.6 hectares of vines because two additional hectares were planted in 2005 by three partners from this village.
