The Sterrebos is an urban fringe forest and provincial domain in the Roeselare district of Rumbeke in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The forest is a mixed deciduous forest, with many different species of trees present, where native oaks and beeches dominate. Since August 12, 1965, it has been classified as a landscape. Since 1987, it has been a provincial domain. The current Dutch word 'sterrenbos' is a distortion of the original Old Dutch spelling 'starre bosch', which means: a planting of rigid trees or tall conifers. A 'sterrenbos' has nothing to do with stars or with a star-shaped lane structure.
