The Maiden Tower was built at the end of the 14th century by Reinier II van Schoonvorst, lord of Zichem and is one of the rare circular keep in Flanders. According to many, behind the name Maiden's Tower lies the tragic story of the daughter of the lord of the castle, who was locked in the tower by her father because she refused to marry the man he had chosen for her. The Maiden's Tower became a protected monument in 1962, but the ravages of time had kept ugly house. In 2006, the building's advanced age took its toll; Some of it collapsed. A modern façade replaces the collapsed part and strengthens the whole. This addition includes the stairs to the viewing platform on top of the tower.
