The anchorage is located in the north of the province of East Flanders and includes an open polder area that stretches between the Graaf Jansdijk and the residential areas of Bentille and Sint-Laureins in the south, the national border with the Netherlands in the north and the Dutch core of Sint-Kruis in the west. The polders are intersected by a network of dikes and several large creeks that are bordered in the south by the sand ridge on which the Graaf Jansdijk is located. The village centres of Sint-Margriete and Sint-Jan-in-Eremo are centrally located, which have developed along the main roads and dikes and have a distinctly linear character.
