In a bend of the Heindonksesteenweg, a narrow lane leads to the Hoeve De Vleug. The semi-paved avenue was planted on both sides with a row of upright poplars that reinforce the linear character of the avenue. Historical maps show that this avenue was originally part of a fairly straight road that led northwards into the polders to the Rupeldijk. The De Vleug farm was owned by the Abbey of La Cambre in 1717 and may have served as a reclamation farm on the edge of the alluvial plain of the Rupel. 18th-century maps show that a neatly constructed reclamation road continued from the farm deep into the polder. This 'Vleugley' was in use until 1863. The avenue from the Heindonksesteenweg to the farm was cut down in 1976 and later replanted with poplar.
