Villa Litzberg was built as a castle farm in 1864-1868 by H. Wenemaekers and is also known as the Wenemaekersgoed. The castle grounds formed a small reclamation centre in the middle of the Lanklaarderbos. The castle and farm were arranged around a rectangular courtyard and were planted on the highest hill of Lanklaar, along the Hoeveweg, which formed the connecting road between As and the Maasland before the construction of the Boslaan. Around the castle an English garden (Jardin Anglais) with a system of avenues was laid out with a round pond as can be seen on the topographical map of ca. 1870. The avenues were designed in such a way that from the castle there were lines of view of the open landscape in a northerly and southerly direction. In front of the castle, a small park was laid out with a goose foot extending in a north-easterly and south-easterly direction. The spatial boundaries of the garden coincided with the steep edge of the Kempen Plateau, which provided beautiful views. To the left and right of the castle, avenues of pedunculate oak and sweet chestnut were planted. The lanes are still intact and mark the edges of the forest and former potato field.
