The Jongenbos is located northeast of the center of Vliermaalroot, in the northern part of Vochtig-Haspengouw. Until 1865 it was part of the municipality of Vliermaal. The suffix -root would indicate the initially wooded character of the northern corner of Vliermaal at the time. Loon fiefs in that area included the Jongenbosch (already mentioned in the 14th century) and the Wermerbosch. On the other side of the Winterbeek - in Diepenbeek - is a narrow strip that also belonged to the Jongenbos estate. The relief of the surroundings is almost flat.
