"Recreational airfield Grimbergen VZW" established in 1939 and located between the Humbeeksesteenweg to the east, the Oyenbrugstraat to the south, the Diegemputstraat and the social housing neighborhood Zonneveld to the west, and the Lintkasteelstraat to the north. In 1939, the Ministry of Defense expropriated land on the Wezenhageveld for the construction of an airfield with an entrance on Oyenbrugstraat at the level of the Oyenbrugmolen. This primarily involved leveling the terrain and sowing grass. During World War II, the airfield was further developed by the German occupier with dozens of buildings including aircraft hangars and shelters along the Lintkasteelstraat, Humbeeksesteenweg, and Oyenbrugstraat. A network of streets, of which several concrete lanes are still recognizable, connected the buildings with the runway.
