In memory of the numerous miners and their work in the Walloon coal mines, a Miners' Lamp was erected at the Tollembeek station in 1998, modeled after the real lamp that the workers carried during their labor in the coal shafts.
This metal construction with a foot cylinder, conical cylinder, and roof section is the work of the company E. Kaesemans - F. Renders from Gooik. The material is steel plate, shot-blasted and metallized, painted with primer, and then lacquered. The decorative border with grooves is made of yellow copper. A door is provided in the foot cylinder, allowing for necessary maintenance and repair of the electrical installation. The total height is 4.35 meters and has a diameter of 1 meter. The lamp contains a light source that burns together with the public lighting.
The Miners' Lamp was donated by the non-profit organization De Mijnwerker.
