N.V. Brewery Moortgat was founded by Leonard Moortgat in 1871 (see the facade stone with the year and mention of J.L. Moortgat/M.H. De Block), initially as a mixed family business, namely a farm with an accompanying vinegar and beer brewery. Due to the growing success of the brewery, where the first "Duvel" was reportedly brewed in 1927, the establishment has been expanded and renovated several times. Today there are relatively recent brewery buildings, the oldest of which date back to the second quarter of the 20th century.
