Hoeve-brouwerij 't Paenhuys

Former farm-brewery ('t Paenhuys) dating back to the end of the 18th, beginning of the 19th century. The Ferraris map already shows buildings, presumably not these volumes. On the primitive cadastral plan (circa 1820) shown as a closed farm, the current wings probably date back largely to alterations made around 1857, when the north-west wing was enlarged to its current area, the south-west wing also underwent alterations. In 1883, as a result of a donation, the brewery was largely transformed into an orphanage (see memorial stone on the fence pillar: "Weezenhuys Nys-Michiels den 8 Maart 1883" and in the courtyard "Orphelinat Nys-Michiels le 8 mars 1883"). This change of function was registered in the cadastral register in 1885. In 1908, the demolition of the north and southeast wings was recorded.
