Parish church of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows, also known as Kouterkerk. Located next to a square bordering the northern side of Kouterstraat. With an adjoining parking lot. Built on the site of a demolished hospital, annex orphanage and elders' home run by the Sisters of St. Vincent de Paul and known as the "Old Hospital" (see street introduction Koevliet). Construction of this complex began in 1829 and was gradually expanded from 1838 until the beginning of the 20th century. The first hospital chapel dedicated to St. Vincent de Paul was consecrated on July 12, 1841, enlarged in 1877, demolished in 1906, and rebuilt in 1908 (according to the design by architect Alphonse Depauw from Lokeren), elevated to a public chapel in 1956 and in 1963 used as a provisional chapel for the newly established Kouter parish. Ultimately demolished around 1968 to make way for a new church building.
