Fountain designed by architect Henri Beyaert in 1886, and two bronze sculpture groups, "Samson and the Lion" (1890) and "Snarling Lions" (1909-1910) by sculptor Josuë Dupon. Initially, this fountain was placed in front of the National Bank on Frankrijklei. The sculpture "Samson and the Lion" cast by Van Aerschodt Frères was added to the fountain in 1893, the sculpture "Snarling Lions" cast by the Fonderie Nationale des Bronzes in 1910. In 1935, the whole was transferred to Jan Van Rijswijcklaan, on the median strip at the intersection with Camille Huysmanslaan.
