Created by the University in 1840, the Liège Botanical Garden houses its exotic collections in magnificent Victorian-style greenhouses, a rare Liège example of iron and glass architecture, now listed.
Over 1,050 m², nearly 5,000 plants including many Begoniaceae, Bromeliaceae, Cactaceae, Orchidaceae, carnivorous plants, and succulents, Mediterranean or tropical (Banana trees, Cocoa trees, Vanilla plants…) not to mention some exceptional specimens of Cycadales. Many of these plants descend from specimens introduced into the greenhouses as early as the 19th century. The park where the greenhouses are located contains over 170 species of trees from various continents, some dating back to 1841, including around fifteen "champions of Belgium".
