Castle Of Franchimont

Franchimont, an ancient fortification in Liège province, occupies a headland which dominates three pretty valleys in the northern Ardennes, 8 km from Spa. The present remains are a spectacular example of a medieval fortified castle which was adapted at the beginning of the Modern Age. NEW : Visits with personal audio-guide. The XI-XIIth century castle forms the nucleus of the fortress, surrounded by a wall with artillery from the start of the XVIth century. This structure is one of the rare examples of the changes in the systems of defence in Renaissance times and the casemates and their underground entrances form the major attraction of the visit.
