The weeping beech (Fagus sylvatica 'Pendula') grows at the back of the Protestant cemetery, northwest of the New Protestant church (built in 1872) and close to the Old Church (built in 1794-1795), near the dividing wall with the minister's house. Both churches are located in the Corseele district, known as the Geuzenhoek. Corseele is the only Protestant community in Belgium that has existed continuously since 1554. The cemetery, where the weeping beech stands, was donated in 1824 by William I.
