Especially in the wet periods, the ponds of the Klein Schietveld are clearly visible from the road. Together with the Groot Schietveld, this area is one of the main survival sites in Flanders for the heather blue, a very vulnerable butterfly species. At the height of the Klein Schietveld rises the Kaartse Beek, which forms the border between Brasschaat and Kapellen a little further.
