Wijvenheide (160 hectares) was recognized as a nature reserve as early as 1958 and is part of the Midden-Limburg Pond Area. This very water-rich area is of great importance for various birds: more than a hundred species breed there. With a little luck, you might see the bittern, the heron, the osprey, numerous species of ducks, and silver herons. In addition to ponds, this area also has heath, meadows, and forests.
